About the Drama Program
Students in the Drama program have the opportunity to advance through a series of rigorous courses at four (1-4H) different levels. All levels of Drama are state approved, college accredited courses. See below for progression details. All students begin at the Drama 1 level unless you have previous experience in the theatre, you are welcome to audition for the Intermediate level class during our audition season. Drama 1: Beginning Drama
Drama 1 is a beginning course designed to teach students the fundamentals of stage performance. This includes: pantomime, improvisation, theatre history, character analysis, monologue study, scene study, costuming, classic & contemporary playwrights, voiceover/broadcasting, play production, playwriting, overview of theatre management, technical theatre, and industry related career opportunities.
Drama 2: Intermediate Drama
Drama 2 is a continuation of Drama 1. Students are tasked with slightly more advanced acting material and they learn to utilize movement, breath, and body for performance.
Drama 3: Advanced Drama
Drama 3 is a continuation of Drama 2 and focuses on critical analysis of theatre performance, various acting methods, character study and development, play production, introduction to directing and producing, and film production.
Drama 4: Honors Drama
Drama 4 is a continuation of Drama 3 and focuses on more rigorous scene/monologue/character study, student directing and producing, logistics of play production, workshops with theatre professionals, drama competitions & student-led film production.
