Students can take several electives because of our unique scheduling of after school and evening classes.
Visual Arts:
- Student work is displayed at banks, stores, Marin County Art and Garden Center, and at all student productions.
Performing Arts:
- Four annual mainstage productions: smARTt is the only program in Marin County that has a Fall Play and Musical and a Spring Play and Musical.
- Most roles are double cast giving more students an opportunity to participate and perform on stage.
- Multiple Annual Theatre Showcase Events (evenings of one act plays, scenes, monologues and Poetry Out Loud).
- Guest Artists: professional playwrights, directors, actors, news broadcasters, composers, song writers, musical stars, sound engineers, and lighting designers join our classes for workshop style events.
- Annual Beginning Drama Holiday Production for over 300 Novato kindergartners
- Annual Jazz and Java Nights
- Annual Intergeneration Musical Nights
- Annual Dance Concerts
- Seven other concerts held throughout the year
Writing Arts:
Journalism
- San Marin is the only high school in Novato Unified School District with a Journalism class.
- a student-run newspaper, The Pony Express.
- Students learn to use publishing software.
Technical Arts:
Technical Theatre:
- Students have access to state-of-the-art AV and lighting equipment in the new Emily Gates Performing Arts Center.
- University of California approved Tech Theatre Courses off a certificated program with two levels of classes.
- Students learn set design, set construction, lighting, sound, costumes, props, and theatre management.
- Advanced Drama and Tech Theatre students in collaboration with the Marin County District Attorney’s office partnered to make two movies and they are starting a third movie: Irreversible Consequences (about texting and the consequences of drinking) and a movie about cyberbullying).
- Students have access to the Recording Studio and Sound Training (CD’s recorded).
General:
